A relative of the Sidecar the Between the Sheets is a split base cocktail that warms with the addition of rum to the mix. A Jazz age cocktail that most agree originated at the fabled Harry’s Bar in Paris in the early 1920s.
The Between the Sheets is served in either a coupe or martini glass. Unlike its relative the Sidecar, this drink doesn’t get a sugared rim.
Between the Sheets Recipe
1 ounce Cognac
1 ounce light rum
1 ounce Cointreau
¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon simple syrup
Garnish: orange or lemon twist
In a cocktail shaker combine the Cognac, rum, Cointreau, lemon juice, and simple syrup with ice.
Strain into a coupe or cocktail glass.
Garnish with orange or lemon twist.
The Between the Sheets cocktail offers a journey through history and flavor, inviting you to explore the world of mixology with a dash of creativity. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet evening at home or celebrating with friends, this drink is sure to leave a lasting impression. Cheers to the perfect balance of tradition and innovation!

These are my favorite coupe glasses. They are a nice size (they easily hold a double recipe of a Between the Sheets). And they look incredibly elegant. Use them for Champagne, or anywhere you would use a martini glass.

For the occasional cocktail I rely on my Norpro juicer. It’s a great heavy duty stainless steel and has lasted me many many years of drink making. It handles oranges, lemons, and limes easily – it’s a bit small for grapefruits. Perfect for the occasional Between the Sheets.
If you need to create plenty of juice with ease, the Zulay professional citrus juice press is our top pick for best manual citrus juicer. With a large sized juicing element this makes short work of any citrus – limes, lemons, oranges, and grapefruits. The large basket makes this one of the best juicers for grapefruit. It’s practically a cocktail machine!
The heavy cast iron construction not only adds stability to this countertop juicer, it adds weight to the pressing action making juicing easier. Rubber feet helps keep this juicer from sliding around. This is perfect for large capacity users, even suitable for bars, restaurants, and commercial use. The stainless steel juicing components are removable and dishwasher safe. Looking for the best citrus press? I feel this is one of the best you can buy. If you need a lot of juice I recommend the Zulay professional citrus juicer.
