Dark and Stormy

The national drink of Bermuda. The fusion of dark rum and ginger beer creates a harmonious blend that ignites the senses. The dark Black Seal rum, infused with the richness of molasses, brings depth and complexity to this drink, while the ginger beer adds a zesty, effervescent kick.
Goslings actually have a trademark for the drink, “Dark ‘n Stormy” which uses their black seal rum. Using a different dark rum this drink goes by the name, “Safe Harbor”. A nod to the nautical sounding name of the original and also the safer, less litigious nature of using your favorite dark rum.
Dark and Stormy Recipe
2 ounces Goslings Black Seal rum
¾ ounce lime juice
4 ounces ginger beer
Garnish: lime wheel
In a highball glass half filled with ice add the rum, lime juice, and fill with ginger beer.
Garnish with a lime wheel.
The name comes from floating the rum on top of the ginger beer. The dark rum creates a rolling storm cloud over the pale ginger beer. To get this look pour the ginger beer and lime juice into your glass of ice. Slowly drizzle the rum over the back of a bar spoon and the rum will not mix with the ginger beer. Make sure to add a straw or swizzle stick to be able to stir the drink before drinking.

A well balanced ginger beer with a fresh ginger bite. The sweetness is very well tempered with Goslings own Black Seal Rum for an outstanding Dark and Stormy.
I love these sturdy highball glasses. It’s what I used in the Dark and Stormy photo above. These not only look and feel good in your hand, you can fit those larger 2 inch ice cubes in them.
Drinks like the Dark and Stormy are great with a straw that doubles as a drink stirrer. These are the perfect size to use with the Riedel Highball glass (see the feature image above). These are thinner than most glass straws, a feature that I love.
The perfect finishing touch. I love these classic hemstitched linen napkins. You can never have too many white linen napkins, and these come in an amazing assortment of colors too. They always look good whether starched crisp or left natural and wrinkled.
