The Obituary Cocktail, although its name may suggest somber connotations, is a captivating blend of flavors. Contrary to its funereal name, this cocktail is a celebration of taste and tradition.
A relative of a Dry Gin Martini, the Obituary is brightened with a splash of absinthe. The anise flavor enhances the herbal dry vermouth and really showcases the gin. A twist of lemon squeezed into the drink brings it all together.
Obituary Recipe
2 ounces gin
¼ ounce dry vermouth
¼ ounce absinthe
Garnish: lemon twist
In a mixing glass half filled with ice, combine the gin, vermouth, and absinthe.
Stir well.
Strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish with lemon twist.
For the gin I use a London Dry style gin. The clean juniper flavor is set off perfectly with the absinthe. The absinthe will turn cloudy when it gets diluted with melting ice as it chills. This is totally normal and is known as louching. Different brands of absinthe all louche a bit differently.
The Obituary Cocktail is more than a drink; it’s a tribute, a story, and a journey through flavors and memories. Crafting this cocktail is an art, and sipping it is an experience that melds the past and present, honoring the lives we cherish. Raise a glass of this unique blend, and let it be a toast to the beautiful tapestry of memories that make life truly remarkable.

I prefer these stainless steel barspoons from Barfly. They are high quality commercial grade. They come in a great selection of finishes, but stainless is what I always go for.
