The screwdriver, a classic highball that is the epitome of simplicity. Sunshine in a glass gets an upgrade with the addition of vodka. Vodka overtook gin as the most popular spirit in the late 1960s. Orange juice was the most popular mixer in the 1970s. It was inevitable that the Screwdriver would show up everywhere and with good reason – it’s simple to make and refreshing to drink. The Screwdriver – aka Vodka and Orange Juice is a classic.
Screwdriver Recipe
2 ounces vodka
4 ounces fresh orange juice
Garnish: orange or lime wedge
In a highball glass half filled with ice add the vodka and top with orange juice.
Stir and garnish with an orange or lime wedge.
I like to garnish with a lime wedge. That extra touch of lime balances the orange juice beautifully. The Screwdriver is an excellent drink for brunches, poolside, or anytime a simple straightforward drink is wanted. Cheers!
